We’re all artists! My preferred medium of self-expression is watercolor, mixed media and crochet. Art is a big part of my personal life, the way I express myself. I also integrate my art into storytelling, rainmaking and changemaking!

Sharing my art is actually the reason I started on Substack. My first post was about my Art Journaling experience inspired by Amy Cowen of Illustrated Life.

RainMakers & ChangeMakers Art and Storytelling Series

Starting in June 2024, I created a second Substack called RainMakers & ChangeMakers to feature my artwork, specifically portraits, and writings highlighting people doing transformative work in their communities, particularly in East Africa.

RainMaker Design - Crochet for a Cause

Since 2018, I’ve operated an Etsy store - RainMaker Design - that has on and off again sold Sculpey jewelry and crochet items. While primarily used for income generation, I pivoted the store to support the work of ChangeMakers I’ve come to know and love. Waterbottle carriers to support a rainwater storage tank fundraiser, rainbow whirligig garden decorations to raise funds for mudboots and mosquito nets for Kenyan children, and dog bandanas to raise funds for dog rescues in New England.

While most of my art sharing lives on Instagram, I occasionally dabble with dropping some art here on SubStack.

Portraits

My early time on Substack was 100% art focused. In April 2023 I was approaching a streak of 200 portraits a day. By May I was fully engrossed in practicing the art of “ahrting in public” [I’m in Massachusetts and that’s they way “arting” sounds to my ear] which included drawing people in coffee shops and at poetry readings.
