This is a short celebratory post with a video and some sweet music that I hope will brighten your day.
For the last thirty days, I have consistently drawn - every day - an index card size picture of an individual who has made a significant change in their community, specifically an African community. This series is part of the 2024 Index Card A Day challenge which I described in my May 27th post here.
This is a 61-day challenge.
While it’s primarily an Instagram challenge (you can follow me at “emma_art_mm”), I have made it a full-on social media and Substack challenge. I also combined it with the 1,000 Words of Summer two-week challenge by
, which means that for the first two weeks I was also writing an article every day providing backstory and information on each individual daily! All of the people I feature in my daily index card art are working with limited resources in Africa - many of them in refugee settlements - to mitigate the impacts of climate change, address food insecurity and help people in their communities generate income to become more self-reliant.
You can see a full directory of them all here. Of note, many of these people have joined Substack as well, so we now have a growing number of diverse voices here on Substack thanks to this project. While it’s still very difficult for most of them to access Substack and create their own newsletters (due to limited and costly wi-fi and data), I have been able to bring at the very least their faces and voices here in my posts.
30 More Days to Go!
I have thirty more days to go to reach a total 61 days of small art featuring these amazing folks - people who I refer to as RainMakers & ChangeMakers. In fact, as you may already know, that is the name of my second Substack! There you can find all of my daily art as well as articles detailing the work and backstory of each individual.
Please join me at RainMakers & ChangeMakers to see what the next 31 days brings!
RainMaker Fund
If you are enjoying the art and stories (which you will find in my Notes daily on Substack) and want to help give these ChangeMakers a little boost, consider making a one-time donation here to what I’m calling the “RainMaker Fund” at my “BuyMeACoffee” site.
At the end of this 61-day challenge, I will match dollar for dollar the total amount donated here as of July 31st and then distribute hose funds equally amongst the groups showcased in this challenge. While it might not be much it will be something! A little goes a long way with these ChangeMakers and it will give them great confidence to know that people around the world recognize the work they are doing.
In solidarity with all of my new-found global sisters and brothes, thank you for watching! Thank you for your reading! Thank you for your encouragement. And, thank you for your support!
