Dear readers, my friends!
I have two pieces of news for you. The first is a reminder and invitation. The second is the announcement of my second Substack: RainMakers & ChangeMakers.
Young Refugee Artist Expo
First, I am writing to invite you to a special cross-cultural online young artist exchange and expo that I am facilitating and co-hosting on Saturday, June 1st at 9 am EDT (New York time). I wrote about this a week ago, but am extending the invitation again to encourage more people to join us. This is a live, online artist share! A unique opportunity to meet Congolose and Burundian refugee artists (ages 15-20) who are eager to share their artwork with the world… and that means you!
Tickets are available at EventBrite. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. The $5 fee allows us to purchase sketchbooks and paints for the 10 young refugee artists we are showcasing. If you are unable to attend but still wish to support the work monetarily, you can purchase one or more tickets. Your support is greatly appreciated!
For more information, read last week’s post below. You can also read all about the artists on this page: Artist Profile Link.
While the time (9 am EDT) is not ideal for everyone, it was the best option when we began planning a month ago. Given the timing doesn’t work for our friends in Australia and the US West Coast, we hope to plan a second offering in the near future. We also plan to record and produce a video to share widely. The artists are also anxious to do live paint demos in the future. Our hope is we garner enough interest to produce more events like this!
Every day until the event I am sharing the profile and work of one of the young artists on notes. Today’s artist share was Nathalic. In case you are not on Subsack Notes, here’s your preview!
RainMakers & ChangeMakers
Today I launched a second Substack called RainMakers & ChangeMakers. Why? There is an entire part of my life that I want to share with the Substack world that doesn’t seem to fit here at Spaghetti Twisted Thoughts. So, I’ve started a new Stack and I hope you’ll join me there!
The stories of the small-time givers and doers - the RainMakers & ChangeMakers of the world - often go unwritten. My goal is to share the ones that I know here… sharing their stories through cameos, art, creative writing, photo journaling, and video not only honors their work but encourages others to join in. Working together, taking small steps, and doing big things is not only rewarding it’s frickin fun!
This is my hypothesis: when people are introduced to the stories of RainMakers & ChangeMakers, they are more likely to join in or take a small step towards mobilizing their own networks to be a giver and/or a doer. Through stories and art I aim to inspire you (and me) to collaborate to create change. The more people who take small, positive steps together towards improving the lives of themselves and others, the easier the work of changing the world for the better will be. The more connected we become, the more we realize we are part of the same large human family.
Thank you for reading!
I recently turned 50 and have to say my first two weeks on this side of the half century are pretty good! I hope all is well with you and yours. Leave me a comment to say hi and tell me what you are up to. I hope to see you over at RainMakers & ChangeMakers but would be happy to get your feedback here as well! Also, I’m doing my best to get to my Substack inbox and hope to see you all on your own Substacks!
